MB JV-9 Opens The Season with Victory Over ECS

9th Grade vs Evangelical Christian School on 2/15/2013 7:15:00 PM

MB JV-9 opened up the 2013 GBYLA season with a solid 9-6 win over Evangelical Christian School (Memphis, TN) at Rathmell Field.  The game was tight through the first quarter with both teams netting 3 goals.  The arrival of BamaLax star Edward Campbell onto the Spartan’s attack in the second quarter broke open a 4-4 tie and showed why he was named a Brine All-American in 2012 with a screaming crank from just above goal line extended that ended up in the upper left corner - without a reaction from the Eagles goalie.  The Brookies dominated play from that moment on and, despite consistent questionable calls by the officiating crew, held the Evangelicals to only 2 more goals for the rest of the game.

Mountain Brook’s defense took over the game in the second half.  Led by their talisman, goalie Thomas Byrne, the defense of BamaLax star David Favrot, Porter “Porterhouse” Williamson, BamaLax star and Brine All-American Patrick Doud and James Pugh shut down the Eagles offense while holding them scoreless in the fourth quarter.  The “Special Ed.” Midfield of Charles Albert Fell IV, Doud and rookie Daniel Rhodes were effective on ECS’s tall and rangy midfielders.  Christopher Jones and “Major” Payne Frost were effective on the man-down defense unit which played significant minutes in the third quarter.

On offense, the Brookies were led by BamaLax star Crawford “Rolex” Tindle who scored 3 goals on the night.  Campbell added a brace with 2 goals and Brine All-American John Andrew White also scored twice.  Two players – Kemper “Special K” Sanders and Carter “Uther” McAlpin - opened up their scoring accounts with 1 goal each.  Sanders added an assist as did Benjamin Rosenthal and Taylor “Speed Racer” Carson.

This game was the lacrosse debut for a number of players on Coach Doud’s Mountain Brook freshman team with Joseph “Ice Cream Man” Pewitt, Camden Gregory Barnes, John Scott “Muffin Man” Holcombe and Wilson “Michelangelo” Tyndal playing integral roles in the team’s victory.
