MB JV-9 Defeats Vestavia White 8-2

9th Grade vs Vestavia Hills on 2/16/2013 2:00:00 PM
Posted Sunday, February 17, 2013 by Brian Doud
MB JV-9 defeated Vestavia White 8-2 in GBYLA action at windy Rathmell Field.  The game started slow with the first quarter ending in a 1-1 draw.  Mountain Brook took control in the second quarter tallying 4 unanswered goals and following that with 3 more unanswered goals in the third quarter before emptying the bench in the fourth quarter.

Mountain Brook’s defense picked up where it left off after the ECS game with a dominant display.  BamaLax star David Favrot, Porter “Porterhouse” Williamson, BamaLax star and Brine All-American Patrick Doud consistently harassed and harangued the Vestavia attack into multiple forced and unforced errors.  The talisman of the defense, Goalie Thomas Byrne, recorded 6 saves in the first half before giving way to Fuller “The Amish Boy” Crocker who recorded 4 saves in the second half.  James Pugh and Christopher Jones recorded significant minutes on the first defense.  Hunter “Herr” Blattmann made his debut for the Brookies and recorded the check of the day with a devastating “yard sale” check on Vestavia’s BamaLax star David Klementz.  JB Curlee also made his debut for the Spartans.

The Brookies’ motion offense caused confusion for Vestavia and created opportunities for Mountain Brook.  Four of the eight goals on the day were assisted.  In addition, the extra-man offense unit of BamaLax star Crawford “Rolex” Tindle, Taylor “Speed Racer” Carson, Elijah “Fear the Turtle” Welman, Kemper “Special K” Sanders, Brine All-American John Andrew White and Benjamin Rosenthal was very effective netting 3 goals.  Carson and Sanders led all scorers with 3 goals apiece.  Tindle recorded 2 points on the afternoon with 1 goal and 1 assist.  Joseph “Ice Cream Man” Pewitt scored on a bizarre play that can only be described as the “hand of God” guiding the ball into the net.  Welman and Charles Albert Fell IV each added an assist.

This game was the GBYLA U13 debut for a number of Spartan players.  Wiliam Francis Crockard, Hunter Culverhouse, and Dustin MacNaughton saw action on attack, and Omer Tunagur and Murphy Barze debuted on midfield.

The Brookies host St. Paul's School (Covington, LA) at Mountain Brook High School in their next game.
